I know that when I was a little girl, I dreamed of being the world's youngest author. I'll admit, I had pretty big dreams back then. Growing up, I surrounded myself with books. They were my favourite things in the entire world. Today, reading is my favourite hobby and my sister doesn't understand why I have so many books. "Why don't you just throw them out after you've read them?" is a question she's asked me on several occasions. What many people may not understand is that people who love books and reading are just like people who love their cars or their stamp collections. Asking us why do we want to work with books in the future or why don't we throw out our books is like asking a car collector "why don't you scrap your car when you don't even drive it?" Today, my dream is to be a published author and own my own book shop.

So, here are other job and career opportunities for book lovers. It's a world of dreams and opportunities out there, after all.
Blogger
As a blogger, you have total control over what the focus of your blog is, the content that you deliver to your audience and your work hours. Of course, if you are taking this route as a job or career choice, you will need to have in-depth knowledge of the topics that you are going to write and talk about - your readers and audience will expect the best from you. When starting a blog, you may want to keep a second job until your blog kicks off as it can be risky, but there are established blogs out there that you could write articles for.
Librarian
This is probably the most common job that comes up when people search jobs and careers for book lovers. After all, it's a job that ensures that you're surrounded by books whenever you're at work. Even if you're not reading as many books as you would like, at least you're surrounded by the things that you love. And who doesn't love that book smell?!
Novelist
Being a novelist/author is a tough job, but it's possible for everyone to try. With enough time and effort, anyone can write a story of their own. There are various paths to take as a novelist. You get to decide what genre you'd prefer to write, if you'd prefer to self-publish or hire an agent to represent you and try to get a publishing deal, your work hours (though these will focus on deadlines). However, many people find that making the time to sit down and write is tough, so you'd have to be sure that you can push through the urge to procrastinate and write.
Editor
If you love to read, a career as an editor might be the job for you! Reading is a main part of being an editor. Reading, proofreading are all requirements in the job description, whether you're an editor for books, newspapers, online blogs or magazines, it's a big big world out there.
Independent Book Shop Owner
If you're like me and your dream is to one day own your own book shop, then this one's for you. Owning your own book shop will be hard work and cost a lot of money to get it open and running, but if you love the idea of owning your own business, surrounding yourself with books on a daily basis, getting your hands on new releases and helping other book lovers find their next read, why not just go for it!
Reporter/Journalist
This career isn't exactly related to books directly, but there is still the reading and writing aspects to look forward to! Researching, writing, and reporting are all main features of this job, and if you love those things, you might just make it as a journalist!
Proofreader
Proofreading is one of those top jobs that avid book readers can dream of. You're literally being paid to read. Sure, you have to keep an eye out for errors regarding grammar and punctuation, but it's still reading, right?
Book Publicist
It's your job to promote books. You'll be in charge of scheduling book signings, advertising and marketing books, and more! If you love books and socialising, why not give this job a go!
There are many jobs and careers that a book lover can go into - more than you may think. Choosing just one can be tough, especially if more than one appeals to you, but as long as you end up doing what you love, you'll live a happy life!
